About This Product

This resource is a set of goal posters to support classroom management in a fun way.

To use these posters, choose one or two skills that you want to focus on with the class. Do not choose more than one or two things to focus on at once. This will overwhelm the students and you will not make as much progress as you would with just one or two things to focus on.

Once you’ve chosen your poster, you need to decide on a goal. I suggest starting with small goals. Maybe you want students to fill 5 marks at first, and then you can graduate to a full line of marks, and then a full poster. The choice is yours, but I suggest starting small and working up toward bigger goals. You will want to have a reward for meeting each goal. I use free time, extra read aloud time extra recess, and other free ideas for rewards.

After you’ve chosen a goal and a poster:

1. Read the expectations to your students and explain what your goal is.

2. Model what that expectation does and does not look like.

3. Practice the expectation with your class.

4. Review this poster each time you’re about to do what’s on the poster.

5. Allow students to try to do it on their own.

6. After students have done the task that’s on the poster, review the poster again and have students self-assess whether they met the expectation or not.

7. If they did meet the expectations, give them a star on one of the marking spaces. If not, talk about what they can do better next time to earn a star.
